Why the iPod is becoming the center of my universe

ipodnmac.gif I recently switched jobs (another worthy topic of discussion at some point) and I've altered my commute status as well. Previously I was driving my Bimmer (see previous entry) to and from work each day, mostly listening to NPR but also using my iPod with an iTrip. My new job is in downtown Seattle and each day I take the bus, which is a 1/2 hour trip each way. My iPod is my new best friend, along with whatever book I'm reading at the time. Currently it happens to be Jacques Barzun's The House Of Intellect
Since the iPod figures so prominently in my day, I've been looking at all the accessories available. Some of them are amazingly cool, starting with the iPod armor (which I own). Next is the wonderful Smartwrap so useful if you have the added cord length of the remote dangling around. For those of you still driving your single-occupancy vehicles, check out the latest Alpine stereo. Last but not least, parts and batteries. Posted by cbrown at March 30, 2004 11:54 PM | TrackBack

I'm not that impressed of the iPod. I bought mine 40GB version a month ago when I visited USA. The battery does not last very long, you need to charge it every day. You even need to charge it if it has not been used :( Then I assume that I need to replace the battery after 12-18 months. The overall design of the iPod is nice, but the WHY is the headphone connector sticking out!? In my opinion it should be sunken into the iPod or they should have used a flattened version of the 3.5mm connector. I have also had problems with the iPod hanging, both when using it and after that it has been turned of for a couple of days and it takes ages to start it. Then we have the earphones… what a joke, fits terrible and does not have that great sound as I would like them to have. I understand that you have bought the Smartwrap since when the remote control is connected with the headphones you get a LONG wire hanging around.
With the knowledge I have today I would probably have bought a Creative Labs 40GB NOMAD Jukebox, which is almost half the price of a iPod, 14h battery time and about the same size and weight as an iPod.
